Agamemnon, 1-40
A watchman sees the beacons signaling Troy’s defeat
Ten years later light
Brings with it the promise of darkness
*
For where the house has faltered like a ship
In unclaimed waters, wavered like the scales
That cannot tell their balance –
There comes one
Whose hand once knew each current and its echo;
There comes one
Whose coming is a light unto itself
To those who watch, and those that sleep
Observe he casts a shadow ever growing,
A shadow of his own and others’ making.
